Dec. 31, 2006, 2:44 a.m.once again, the US teaches barbarism and misery when they invade, and this is the result--a barbaric execution that leads to a result completely opposite of what was intended. SH is not dead or in hell, by now he in the uterus of some unsuspecting woman and will be reborn. oh well, that is what everyone wanted, and that is what they will get. more pain and suffering on earth, a continuing cycle. the man was charismatic enough to rise to power, and this will continue.

Dec. 31, 2006, 11:18 a.m.I didn't see any graphic content. That camera operator sucks. Anyway, like I said before ... Are we safer now? I guess terrorism is over. What are we gonna do about the other tyrants in the world who killed more people than Saddam?

Dec. 31, 2006, 5:01 a.m.Seems there is a few questions raised here: The morality of state sanctioned capital punishment or eye for eye type justice; the morality of posting it on the Web; the morality of each and every one of us desiring to watch it.
To the first I say: killing anyone no matter how evil demeans us all, the evil is not of degrees - we should all decide whether we can support killing a human being regardless of what he's done, in the abstract we might say no-way but what if its your family? To the second - film footage is acceptable as a record - every idiot with a mobile phone filming and posting it is not and thirdly, the voyeur nature of watching it reduces us and the watched to poor sad examples of our kind.

Dec. 30, 2006, 9:32 p.m.I never thought we'd see this hit the web. I wonder what people are saying in the background.

Dec. 31, 2006, 5:38 a.m.According to Yahoo, this is what happens when the people are yelling.....
Guard: "You have destroyed us! You have killed us! You have made us live in destitution!"
Saddam: "I have saved you from destitution and misery and destroyed your enemies, the Persian and Americans."
Guard: "Goddamn you."
Saddam: "Goddamn you."
-Saddam, smileing, taunts the guards by saying "they were not showing manhood"-
Saddam: "I testify that there is no Ilah but Allah, and I testify that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. I testify that there is no Ilah but Allah, and I testify that Muhammad-"
-The floor drops when Saddam is mid way through the his second recitation of the Muslim prayer "Shahada"-
Guard: "The tyrant has fallen!"
Different Guard: "Let him swing for three minutes."
I can't fully say its credible, but its the only thing I can get thats close to a transcript or translator.

Dec. 30, 2006, 9:36 p.m.Told Hubby this morning that thanks to the age in which we live, we'd see it on the 'net within a few days even tho media stated video would not be released. Always someone around with a camera ...

This bieng aired on all the news sites has to be the most hypocritical thing ive seen in years.

Dec. 30, 2006, 10 p.m.This is a really poor video. I didn't know it was so hard to hold up a camera phone.
Its not that gruesome--its just a black screen. I have seen worse on my tv screen watching HBO.
I can assume that some people with have theories that he is alive unless they have a more clear video. Mind you, I think he is dead and buried next to his sons--but alas we have people who think Elvis is alive. I just know that with the quickness of his execution, poor videos like these, what I have seen on al-Jazeera and quick burial, those theories might start popping up--unless of course a more clearer image is produced. It's just amazing that we got such clear pictures with his sons and Zarqawi but these are so blurred and oftentimes just a black picture.

Dec. 31, 2006, 12:28 a.m.Didn't you see that pink caddy with a fatman in a jumpsuit drive up and steal Saddam away? Look first in donut stores and truckstops...

Dec. 30, 2006, 9:48 p.m.does anyone remember the romanian(?) dictator being shot by a firing squad? that was on U.S. national news networks.
-

mr-sir
Dec. 31, 2006, 1:33 a.m.Do you recall how that went down? They put out the call for 3 volunteers (from the army) to come out for the firing squad. Instead, over 300 turned up! While they were trying to organise the situation, the troops opened fire on their own accord. The dictator and his wife (I forget their names) were both riddled beyond repair!

Dec. 30, 2006, 9:50 p.m.It is so surreal to see this man in such a compromising position. As someone who does not support the death penalty my heart is torn. On one side this man was a horrific human and deserved punishment to the greatest possible end. On the other hand... I just do not know. May God bless us all and peace to Iraq.

Dec. 30, 2006, 11:33 p.m.I am with you on this as well. What is the difference between a "jury" who sits down and judiciously contemplates ordering death to a human vs. a mass murderer who does it in his/her own way?
There is no difference.
No one has the right to take life. Only God.
I actually prayed today to spare Saddam's life, not because I think he is innocent or deserves to be freed, but because his death is not God's way.
Also, it solves nothing, and is a sham in itself.

Dec. 30, 2006, 9:57 p.m.I had a long debate with myself as to watch this or not.
I did watch the video.
Crude, Barbaric.
Add another Death to the Bush list of executions.
Pres Bush as Governor of Texas put more inmates to death than any past or present Governor in the history of America.
Just add one more death to the Bush List.
Thats it.
It will solve nothing for Iraq.
What a vengeful man you are Mr. Bush..

Dec. 30, 2006, 11:08 p.m.Actually, the history will recall that a US puppet jurist appointed by a US puppet gov't conducted a trial that craftily avoided any discovery leading to the exposure of Saddam's criminal accomplices who enabled him to conduct mass murder operations. The trial did not concern itself with the mass murder, but rather less than two hundred executions, many of which were summary judgments.
In this I obviously do not argue that Saddam was not a heinous murderer, but I do argue that the trial - which saw the murder of several of his defense lawyers and the replacement of the presiding judge - as a far cry from justice. In essence, while the a priori conduct of the "trial" was to swiftboat Saddam to the gallows, it was tactically about covering up the criminal complicity of the Reagan/Bush 41 regimes and several European countries that supplied Saddam with chemical and biological weapons and the delivery systems. Beyond that was a 40 year relationship with the CIA.

OK, I can see the stupid people have woken up. The governor of any state has nothing to do with putting people to death. They don't try, judge, convict or sentence a criminal. The only thing they can do is give a stay from execution. But to say they put criminals to death is plain stupid.

Dec. 30, 2006, 11:11 p.m.THIS INDIVIDUAL OBVIOUSLY KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT THE POLITICAL/JUDICIAL PORCESS THAT PRECEEDED THIS. IF I MADE SUCH RADICAL DECISONS/STATEMENTS BEFORE KNOWING THE FACTS ABOUT MY PATIENTS, PEOPLE WOULD DIE ON A DAILY BASIS.
DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE JUMPING TO CONCLUSIONS...
